Airports

1. The Eastern Iowa Airport, also known as the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City Airport (airport code CID), is the closest to the race course and most convenient only about 15 miles away. From this airport, head East on Wright Brothers Blvd about 2 miles to I-380. Take I-380 South past I-80 at which point I-380 changes names and becomes Highway 218. Continue south on 218 about 5 miles and take exit 89. There is only one way to go off this exit ramp and the Johnson County Fairgrounds will be 1/2 mile on your left. Airlines at CID: Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta,  United

2. The Moline - Quad Cities International Airport (airport code MLI) in Moline, Illinois is also convenient. Although this airport is 64 miles away, the trip is an easy no traffic all interstate drive and only 1 hour from the race course. From Moline airport, Take I-280 West until it ends at I-80. Take I-80 West to exit 239 (Highway 218) and follow 218 South to exit 89 as described above. The Johnson County Fairgrounds are 1/2 mile on the left. Airlines at MLI: Air Tran, American Airlines, Delta, United

3. Another option is the Des Moines Airport (airport code DSM). Although a bit further than the other airports, it is just under 2 hours away from Iowa City. Take highway 65 East to I-80 East. Take exit 239 south  (highway 218) for 5 miles to exit 89 and the Johnson County Fairgrounds are 1/2 mile on your left.

4. Finally, also consider the two Chicago airports, O'Hare (ORD) and Midway (MDW). They are both an easy  3.5 to 4 hour drive from Iowa City using I-88 to I-80 from O'Hare or I-55 to I-80 from Midway. With the continuing airline problems once again this year, this might turn out to be the most economical option even after the added expense of a car rental.
